He may be undergoing cancer treatment, but Michael Douglas put on a strong and defiant display at the premiere of his new film in New York.

The 65-year-old, who is half way through his chemotherapy and radiation treatment in his fight against throat cancer, arrived at the event in Manhattan with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The Oscar-winning actor reprises his famous role as ruthless corporate raider Gordon Gekko for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

At the premiere he hugged and greeted friends and colleagues but did not speak to the press.

Co-star Josh Brolin spoke of his admiration: "He's putting himself out there, he's allowing himself to be seen, he's not victimising himself.

"I'm really proud of him. I've known him for a long, long time and I'm very, very happy with the way he's dealing with this - he's not letting it beat him, for sure."
