Musk Deer of the Himalaya

2011-07-22 18 Dailymotion

Musk deer are artiodactyls of the genus Moschus, the only genus of family Moschidae. Moschus moschiferus is the Himalayan or Siberian Musk Deer. The Musk perfume is now manufactured in the laboratory as Astrolide (Galaxolide equivalent) and one does not need to harvest Musk pods for the musk fragrance. The pod of the Musk Deer sells for tens of thousands of dollars by the kilogram, and it is rumoured that Chanel uses it for its popular perfume Chanel No. 5. It has not been proved as although Wilderness Films India research in the past has found strong evidence to confirm this conjecture. This footage is part of the professionally-shot stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of imagery from South Asia.
