Reid Baer FORETELLS the FUTURE from HISTORY
-
History, Jim, is a mess over and
over you see many crows fly far
over and land here on the same piece of soil
heaped like history, Jim, history: an
obsessive compulsive disorder it
seems to me I’ve heard that song before, or
at least the melody line it’s mine and
yours too don’t laugh, Jim, it’ll kill you like
a poison pill, maybe not today from
your clean bathroom medicine cabinet in
your comfortable home but some other
harsher step out of your tired covered
wagon onto the hard dirt to consider
a stable frontier structure dug out of
a mammoth earth mound after so many
miles and hurt cause a bit of distraction
on occasion vile and repulsive
to the soul you know too much folly makes
a modern man cynical, Jim, and
repetition of evil inures the
endless master and slave slave and master
master and slave relationship wouldn’t you
want to end the interminable
mistakes of history and finally get
your white fingers dirty toughen your soft
hands and dig yourself a practical mud
hut to climb in and live permanently
underneath the wretched recurrence of
your history and roll a snug round stone
over the open mouth and scribble
prophecy on the ground until your welcome
death and the good Lord’s resurrection day?
